I have had success flashing an rt-n16 directly to openwrt from stock with the 30/30/30 method and TFTP. I used bcrm47xx mips74k firmware. Jun 18, 2012 · When I switched from DD-WRT and OpenWRT to Tomato, I had to buy a different router, because Tomato only supports certain router hardware, primarily Broadcom. The almost universal recommendation was the Asus RT-N16, so that's what I went with. And it is still an excellent choice. I bought a asus RT-N16 router last week. And I try to install dd-wrt firmware 13309 and 13491. By using them, I found when I use winscp to upload a file to the usb mounted hdd, and the transfer speed is so slow to be around 20KBps.

That was the whole reason I moved from Tomato to OpenWrt. In Tomato the reboots on the RT-N16 only happens when enabling QOS. I'm running OpenWrt with QOS too. I thought well openWrt kernel 3.x with reversed engineered Broadcom-driver would solve the problem..
